THE CLUB AND ITS HISTORY

The Berwyn Rod and Gun Club was established in 1938 by a venerable group of firearms owners, collectors, competitors, hunters and fishermen. Each was an enthusiast dedicated to his or her respective discipline. The purpose of forming the club was to promote the safe and responsible use of firearms, the preservation of natural resources, and community service.

After its start in 1938 the club moved from Berwyn to Muirkirk and then on to its present location in Bowie where it has flourished ever since.

Our members come from all walks of life and include men and women from virtually every age group. The club is replete with varying degrees of shooting skills, varied disciplines and fishing techniques. We run the gamut from beginners to national record holders. Many members also compete in local and national matches in a variety of shooting disciplines.

Berwyn is particularly privileged to count among its membership those persons who are active and retired members of the US Armed Forces in addition to current and former members of the law enforcement community.

Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month except when that day falls on a National Holiday or is postponed due to weather. In those cases the month’s second Wednesday is the designated meeting date.

The club’s governing body is the Executive Committee. Officers serve one-year terms and are elected at the January business meeting. After one full year of membership all members are eligible to serve.
