Club Matches
General Information
All shooting events held by BRGC are intended for the enjoyment of the participants, whether members or guests. Our primary focus has been and will remain on safety. This includes the safety of the shooters themselves, spectators, the general public and the preservation of property, both on and surrounding the shooting ranges. Once safety concerns have been satisfied, our attention turns to providing the most enjoyable shooting experience for the participants.
There is a small donation requested from each participant, typically $5 or less. This allows the competitor to complete as many re-shoots as practical.
All events are run with a spirit of good sportsmanship and anyone behaving in an unsportsmanlike manner will have his or her donation refunded and will be excused from further participation in the event.

Handgun Matches
- Trilogy Pistol Competition
This is a three stage competition with each stage held on a different day. Particulars are as follows:
Small Caliber Pistol Shoot
The qualifications and competition stages will be at the 50 yard range on a NRA B-6 (P) target. Firearms can be revolvers, semi-auto or single shot pistols, scopes or iron sights can be used. The Small Bore Pistol Shoot will be with calibers from .177LR, .177Mag, 22 short, 22 long, 22 mag, 25 ACP, 30Carb, 32 ACP, 32 S&W short, 32 Colt, 32-20, 32 S&W 32 H&R Mag, 327 Federal and perhaps more. In this group there are more than 12 different calibers that could contend.
Medium Caliber Pistol Shoot
The qualifications and competition stages will be at the 50 yard range on a NRA B-6 (P) target. Firearms can be revolvers, semi-auto or single shot pistols, scopes or iron sights can be used. Medium Bore Pistol Shoot will be with calibers from .33 to .40 calibers. This includes the following calibers 380 auto, 38 special, 357mag, 9mm (and many variants), 357 Sig, 38 Super, 38 S&W, 357 Max, 38-40, 40 auto (40 S&W), 400 cor-bon and the 10mm and perhaps more. In this group there are more than 12 different calibers that could contend.
Large Caliber Pistol Shoot
The qualifications and competition stages will be at the 50 yard range on a NRA B-6 (P) target. Firearms can be revolvers, semi-auto or single shot pistols, scopes or iron sights can be used. Large Bore Pistol Caliber will be from 41 Magnum to 500 S&W. This includes but not limited to: 41 Mag, 44 Russian, 44-40, 44 Special, 44 Mag, 45 Schofield, 45 Long Colt, 45 Auto Rim, 45 ACP, 454 Casull, 50 Action Express and the 500 S&W. Again more than 12 different calibers. - Slider Competition
There are three rounds to this competition. For the slider competitions, we elect team captains each year from the attending participants. The captains keep the team together and hold practice sessions, and foster development of their team's skills for the next competition. This competition is for iron site sliders only, no wheel guns; it is between semi-auto pistols of either 9mm or 45acp. This is to reenact the US armed forces trials that chose the 9mm in 1985 (a quarter of a century ago) and dropped the 45acp. This is a team sport and the winning team will be issued tee-shirts, while supplies last. There will be three Slider Competitions this year and winners may have to give up their tee shirts to the other team if they lose the second or third competition. Shooting is done at 50 foot at a NRA B-3 target. - 1040 Tax Relief, Coal Burners Shoot
This is a Black Powder pistol shoot, any size any caliber. Each contestant has 6 shots at a "Tax Relief" target 50 feet away. The ideal is to place your tax return form under the target and shoot away, relieving your tax stress. Scoring, shooters rounds not on the sheet of paper will be scored minus -$5,000.00. Scores in the right zero are worth +$500.00 Scores on the left zero are worth +$100.00. Score on the paper but not scored on the zeros are -$1,000.00. The highest $ wins. - Spring Ladies Tea & Targets
This is a shoot for the Ladies on the first Sunday after Mothers day. The ladies can shoot the handgun of their choice or rifles in 22lr caliber. Pistol competition will be on the 50 ft range with 22lr rifle competition on the 50-yard range. For Pistols almost anything goes sliders and wheel guns any caliber below the 500S&W, scoped or iron sights. (Please let the Pistol Officer know if you plan on shooting black powder pistols). For Riles, only 22lr caliber is allowed scoped or iron sights. Less than 50 rounds of ammo should be needed. Bring your favorite shooting glasses and ear protection. Targets will be provided. After the shoot, the club guys serve English High Tea at the DAV. BRGC will also offer firearms assistance for the ladies that would like the help. The 2009 Tea and Targets was written up and published in the March issue of NRA Shooting Sports USA on-line magazine pages 22-23, which can be found at www.nrapublications.org and click on "Shooting Sports USA". If you have a gun you almost never shoot and you could use some help with it, this is the shoot for you. If you are experts and like Tea, this is the shoot for you. So ladies please come out and have some fun and be served English High Tea by your club guys after your exciting shooting match. The 2011 Tea and Targets event was featured on a WUSA9 newscast which can be found here. - Good Bad and Ugly Shoot
The Good, The Bad and the Ugly Shoot from 2-4 PM. This will be 30 rounds of fire, 15 for qualification and 15 for competition at the NRA B-3 target from 50 foot. The guns will also be judged for their good bad and ugly qualities, the longest gun, shortest gun, prettiest gun and the most bull dog ugly gun. This shoot is a cross between a gun display, beauty contest and a shooting competition. - Berwyn Towne, Eastern Holster Draw
For this competition all contestants must have a BRGC holster draw certificate. This is a wax bullet shoot with revolvers that can operate in single action. For this competition the pistols must be cocked every time before firing. For any double action pistols only single action is allowed for this competition and users must restrict their operation to single action. Black powder single action pistols are allowed. The single action army (SAA) type of pistols is allowed. For wax bullets try here, here, here or here. There will be some 45LC wax bullets available, brass shells and 209 primers. - Fall Ladies Basket Bingo
Basket Bingo, another shooting event dreamed up by our club ladies. Shooting at a "Bingo" target with the handgun of your choice or a rifle in 22 calibers. All club safety rules will apply, contestants should have eye protection, ear protection and a range officer will guide you thought the steps. Bring the handgun of your choice, (no scopes on the handgun) or a 22 long rifle ammo firing rifle with or without iron sights. About 30 bullets is all that will be needed for some practice, qualification and competition. Pistoler’ets will shoot at 50 foot while the Annie Oakley rifle shooters will be at the 50-yard range. - 50 Yard Poker Shoot
This will be a 50/50 shoot from the combined collection of the $5.00 donation and $2.00 per target cost. Targets are 17.5" by 9" with 52 cards printed on the back side. There are several different card configurations. You can remember, make a map, or take a photo of your target. Targets will be back side facing you at 50 yards. Highest hand takes 50% of the winnings. You cannot give it back to the club! This will be from 2-4 PM. - Connect-The-Dots Shoot, Trim the X-Mass Tree
The qualification round is intended to warm the shooter up. Trim the Xmas Tree, Connect the Dots Shoot. Winner will be provided a Christmas tree. This will be a 22lr pistol competition with semi auto and revolvers, iron or scoped sights. There will be 12 rounds fired for both qualification and competition with in 10 minutes at a Xmas Tree target. The top ornaments bulls-eye is worth 20 points all the rest are 10 points. Only one round will be scored for each ornaments. Come get into the Christmas spirits by trimming your own tree. Target is at 50 yards at the NRA B-6 (P) target. Each contestant has 15 shots with a 10 min time limit. Scopes or iron sights can be used.
Rifle Matches
- The CMP (Civilian Marksmanship Program) .22 Sporter Shoot
This event involves shooting a non-target-specification .22 caliber LR rifle from the prone and sitting/kneeling positions at 50 yards and offhand (standing unsupported) at 25 yards. Rifles should meet the following specifications: 7.5 pounds or less overall weight, with a trigger pull weight of 3 pounds or less. Full rules can be found here, but BRGC interprets these rules rather liberally. For example, we generally allow rifles with thumb-hole stocks and bull barrels to be used, even though the CMP rules do not.
There are two classes of rifles and separate scores will be recorded for the two: "O" class for shooters with open sights, which are typically the sights that come standard on sporting rifles and "T" class for aperture (peep) or telescopic sights (scopes must be 6 power or less or variables adjusted no higher than 6 power). The newly developed "Tactical .22s", which are .22 rimfire rifles designed to resemble AR-15/M-16/M-4 military rifles, may compete in the "T" class at BRGC CMP shoots. - Air Rifle Silhouette Shoots
At these events, shooters attempt to knock down steel cutouts of animals at various ranges. Although the game is supposed to employ sporter (non-target-grade) air rifles, BRGC does allow match target grade rifles to be used. This is one of the newer events and the BRGC implementation of the rules is still evolving. - D-Day Memorial Shoot
This yearly event celebrates the pivotal invasion of the European mainland on June 6, 1944 by American and allied forces. The BRGC event allows combat rifles and machine guns used by any combatant of the European theatre during WWII. Machine gun fire is a demonstration-only event. Rifle fire will be at 100 yards and utilize both prone and offhand positions. - Centerfire 3-Position Rifle Shoot
Shooters may employ any center-fire rifle that meets the safety requirements of the BRGC rifle range and is capable or rapid fire strings of 5 shots. Competitors are scored in two separate categories: "Military" for iron sighted as-issued rifles of military origin, including John-Garand-Match-legal M-1 rifles and "Sporting" for all other rifles including match-tuned NRA High Power rifles and all rifles with telescopic sights. The officer running the match will decide classifications if there is a dispute. - Balloon Shoot
This is a timed event open to shooters of any rifle with any sights (ARAS) and capable of shooting 5-shot strings without reloading. Targets are brightly colored toy balloons at 100 yards. Shooting is from the prone position and the winner will be the fastest shooter to break 5 balloons. If no one breaks 5, the fastest to break 4 will be the winner and so forth. - Tennis Ball Shoot
This is the same basic event as the balloon shoot but with tennis balls making smaller and trickier targets. - Paper Varmint Shoot
One of the favorite BRGC events, here shooters may use either bench rest or prone positions to steady their aim as the attempt to score hits on a life-size picture of a groundhog. To make the game even more interesting, hitting the miniature bullseye printed on the target is awarded extra points. One reason this event is so popular is that practically any rifle can score points by hitting the groundhog but only the best rifle and shooting technique can score the maximum points on the bullseye. This is a great meet-up for hand loaders and precision marksmen and for those who want to be. - Annual Deer Shoot
This is a real fun event where hunting rifles are used to fire at a life size paper deer target, with points awarded for hits in "vital areas" of the deer. Any centerfire rifle that is legal to fire on the BRGC range may be used. Firing scenarios include simulations of shooting from a tree stand and leaning against a tree. In some of the scenarios, the deer target is stationary and in others the target is exposed for only a few seconds. Deer hunting stories abound. In fact, the only things missing from the deer camp experience are the long hours and the alcohol. - Small Bore Precision Match
The rules of this match are to be to be finalized but will involve shooting offhand, prone and sitting/kneeling at a range of 50 yards using any .22 LR rifle. Shooting aids like coats, competition grade slings, shooting gloves will be permitted.
