Paper Varmint Shoot - 100 yards

  • 03 Sep 2016
  • 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM
  • 100 Yard Range

One of the favorite BRGC events returns with a few updates. Shooters may use any rifle, any sight, and any caliber permitted by the BRGC range rules. Artificial support is permitted only on the forestock; the buttstock can be hand supported.

Shooters may use either bench rest or prone positions to steady their aim as they attempt to score hits on a life-size picture of a groundhog on the 100-yard range. Prone shooters will earn bonus points over bench shooters while iron sights will be scored in a different category than those using optics. Likewise, rimfire rifles will be scored separately from centerfire.

To make the game even more interesting, hitting the miniature bullseye printed on the target is awarded extra points. One reason this event is so popular is that practically any rifle can score points by hitting the groundhog but only the best rifles and shooting technique can score the maximum points on the bullseye.

The regular course of fire has 2 targets on each point with a 5 minute sighting period followed by 5 shots for record on the second target. Most shooters shoot 5 shots on the sighter target and submit the best of the 2 for record. The is a once per target chance to try one shot at the eye for 7 point. Max score per target is 27.

This is a great meet-up for hand loaders and precision marksmen and for those who want to be.

Note to members: Any shooting lanes not in use for the event will be open for members to use as needed so long as you are willing to work with the event officers regarding when the range is declared hot or cold.
