"Mad Minute" Defensive shotgun event

  • 03 Apr 2024
  • 5:15 PM - 6:15 PM
  • 50 Ft Range

This event is for members only and will challenge even experienced shotgun shooters.

All participants must wear suitable attire, bring hearing and eye protection, a functioning and safe shotgun that they have experience with, and a minimum of 10, new in box shotgun slugs; no reloads.

Only one shooter will shoot at a time at the direction of the RSO/Instructor.

Instructor will inspect the participants shotgun and ammo, and direct the participant to put 4 shells on the bench, and remaining shells either on their person and/or shotgun in a suitable holder.

Event will be conducted in three phases consecutively:

Phase 1 - On the command of "go" from the instructor the participant will load all 4 shells into their shotgun from the table only; and then shoot all of them through the target.

  • Participant will fix any malfunctions or issues during the entire event and only stop when directed.
  • Advanced participants may (at the discretion of the instructor) load their shotgun with eyes closed or blind folded.  Participant must remove blindfold (or open eyes) before shooting.
  • Advanced participants may also experience a malfunction deliberately caused by the instructor possibly swapping out a live shell for a dummy shell.

Phase 2 - After completion of Phase 1, Participant immediately performs an emergency reload of a single shell and shoots it; repeating this three times.

  • Participants my demonstrate advanced skills by underhand loading, then overhand loading and again underhand loading (or vice-versa).

Phase 3 - After completion of Phase 3, Participants immediately load the remaining three shells from their shotgun or person, and immediately shoots them into the target.

Judging criteria:

  • All participants will grade one another based on the Speed, Accuracy, and Mechanics (confident, fluid motion, and function of the shotgun in a controlled manner).

Please contact the Defensiveshotgun@berwyn.org for any questions.  No need to RSVP for this event, please don't be late; and if there is sufficient time, some participants may be invited to do the event more than once if they wish.
